Hello! I'm Sophia Wang.
I'm a PhD candidate in Music Education at the University of Toronto. My research interests include policy, cross-sectoral involvement, and paradigm shifts in music education. In my on-going dissertation study, I examine how non-state actors from the private sector and social economy shape the provision of public school music education in Canada, through the vantage point of music festivals. My research is supported in part by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (Canada Graduate Scholarship - Doctoral) and the Ontario Graduate Scholarship.
Prior to pursuing graduate studies, I worked as a classroom teacher in an Ontario-based ESL program in Taiwan and Secondary Occasional Teacher for the Toronto District School Board. I was also classically-trained as a flutist and piccoloist. I earned my previous degrees from the University of Toronto (Mus.Bac. '18, MA '23) and Queen's University (B.Ed. '19).
